What was in the trees in Southern California? (UPDATE: No evidence of escaped ape)

A local man says he heard noises and took a cell phone video that appears to capture something moving in the trees. The local news interviewed the wildlife officials who seem to suggest it?s an ape.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is investigating after a mysterious, ape-like creature was captured on cellphone video recently in the foothills near a hiking trail in La Crescenta, not far from the 210 Freeway. Jake Gardiner, who works near the area, spotted the animal while taking a stroll during the woods on his lunch break last week.

Is it an escaped chimp? It?s impossible to tell from this very unclear video. Mr. Gardiner says he walks around the area frequently, it?s not remote. He?s gone back a few times since last week but has not seen a sign of the creature again. Unfortunately, he uses the trope that he felt ?uneasy?, like he was being watched. But the video does not capture the strange noise that he said he heard. The noises may have helped confirm if it was a chimp or orangutan.

It appears there is no independent version of the video, only what was broadcast on the news. If this is an ape, a baited trap might work. It won?t stay hidden forever.

UPDATE (10-June 2017) There has been not a trace of any escaped animal since this was reported. Odds are, this is NOT an ape. My current guess is that it?s black plastic bag or material that got loose and floated up into the tree. Notice you NEVER see the object going from one tree to another.
